The mine design process is iterative and aims to transform the optimal pit shells into an operational open pit project. Once completed, the total tonnage of the designed pit should not differ significantly from that of the optimized pit shells. The detailed pit designs were carried out using Deswik mining software. It includes haulage ramps providing access to all benches, except for the final benches which will be excavated via temporary ramps.

16.5.4 Haul Road Design

The haulage ramps are sized to accommodate the largest haulage truck (xx t capacity) and are designed for two-way traffic, except for the final levels of each phase, which are designed for one-way traffic. For the two-way traffic, the design considers a buffer space equivalent to half the width of the largest truck width (CAT 785). Safety berms are designed at half the diameter of the haul truck tires. Figure 16-9 (a) and (b) show a schematic of the haul ways for double and single lane.
