16.5 Open Pit Mining
16.5.1 Whittle Open Pit optimization
GEOVIA Whittle (2026) software was used to carry out the pit optimization process for the Boumadine pit. Using the Lerchs-Grossmann (LG) algorithm integrated into Whittle, nested shells were generated, and the optimal pit shell was selected for each area of the deposit. These pit shells were then used for mine design and, ultimately, for the scheduling process.
Estimated costs and cut-off grades were provided by AYA and verified by the QP. These costs were compared to benchmark costs from similar projects before being incorporated into Whittle.
Table 16-5 presents the economic and mining data used for Whittle pit optimization. Revenue for each block was provided by the calculated NSR value.
