EX-99.1 · Development costs
Development costs
The Group capitalizes costs for development projects. Initial capitalization of costs is based on management's judgment that technological and economic feasibility is confirmed, usually when a product's development project has reached a defined milestone according to an established project management model (seeNote 3 for the related accounting policy).
In determining the amounts to be capitalized, management makes assumptions regarding the expected future cash generation of the project, discount rates to be applied and the expected period of benefits.
Judgment is required in determining when development projects meet the capitalization criteria, including the assessment of technological feasibility and the probability of future economic benefits.
The assessment of whether a project will generate probable future economic benefits is based on the project's business case, including expected additional revenues or cost savings. This assessment is supported by business cases, which may include market analyses and financial projections. Further details on development costs are disclosed inNote 23.
