ESG Framework

ESG Framework

We view efforts to minimize our impact on the environment and drive continuous improvement in employee safety, engagement and retention as integral to our business, driving long-term value creation for all of our stakeholders. Since our 2020 introduction of our fifteen-year, aspirational environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) and sustainability targets, along with a commitment of $500 million towards their achievement, we have demonstrated progress towards their achievement, while also continuing to expand our targets.

Our 2023 Sustainability Report included a doubling of our targeted emissions reduction to 30% following a reduction of 14% in 2022. Our targets are shown below:

As also described in our 2023 Sustainability Report, we continue to evaluate and expand our disclosure including in 2022 for Environmental Justice (EJ) analysis and reporting aligned with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework. Furthermore, in 2023, we initiated the process for establishing a Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) emissions reduction target.

In 2023, we also continued our efforts to Drive to Zero incidents in safety, with an incident rate reduction of over 7% overall, with more than 60% of operating locations either posting zero safety-related incidents or achieving year-over-year improvements. Moreover, our Total Recordable Injury Rate and risk cost as a percentage of revenue remained below industry averages. We also saw an improvement in employee engagement as measured by retention. Following two challenging years of labor constraints, we saw an improvement in voluntary turnover of over 20% in 2023.
