Total operating expense remained stable at $360.7 million for the third quarter of 2026. The third quarter included $1.7 million of deferred compensation expense offset by gains on related investments in Other gains, net. Excluding the impact of deferred compensation, total operating expense increased $6.4 million.

Personnel costs increased $6.5 million excluding the impact of deferred compensation. Regular compensation expense increased $3.2 million, primarily reflecting investments in talent, including the addition of revenue-producing personnel. Cash-based incentive compensation increased $1.2 million due to strong loan production during the quarter. Employee benefits expense increased $1.1 million, driven by higher employee healthcare costs, partially offset by a seasonal decrease in payroll taxes.

Non-personnel expense was consistent with the prior quarter. A $2.6 million increase in data processing and communications expense, primarily driven by higher software costs, was fully offset by decreases in business promotion expense and net occupancy and equipment costs. Mortgage banking costs decreased $1.2 million due to lower loan payoff activity during the quarter.
